LARK CREEK GRILL
The project is the renovation to the previous Daily Grill in Newport Beach, CA. The restaurant is located on the corner and open to the theater promenade entrance to the Fashion Island Mall.
The concept for Lark Creek Newport Beach was to take the established brand bringing the best of Northern California seasonal farm fresh cuisine and wines and craft cocktails and combine it with the fashionable, nautical boat and beach culture of Southern California; more specifically Newport Beach. This doesn’t show up in just the food and beverage, but in the materiality and architecture. Raw exposed materials like natural walnut wood, sealed concrete floors, bar glass globe pendants and a living plant wall are combined with a glossy patterned kitchen tile wall, patterned fabrics on the banquettes, wall covering graphics and mirrors. The juxtaposition of the two aims to blend masculine and feminine material qualities and styles for a fashion forward yet relaxed dining experience.
The design also aims to create a strong indoor / outdoor connection to take advantage of the great Southern California climate. The storefront sits behind two large arches behind a covered patio area. Previously closed off the storefront was modified with a large wood and glass pivot door, operable sliding doors and a horizontal pivot window at the bar. The concrete flooring is the same inside and outside for a seamless transition. This is further exemplified with a floating wood ceiling, which leads through the space and aims at the window in the kitchen wall. The outdoor area will be heated and cooled with patio heaters, fans and glass wind screens to create a comfortable outdoor environment.
Lark Creek Newport Beach has a selection of dining areas. The outdoor bar lounge has bench and ottomans around a linear fireplace and sits adjacent to the outdoor bar. Large communal tables inside are adjacent to the bar counter. Banquets and booths inside and outside flank floating tables for 4s, 6s and 8s. Leading through the restaurant there is a raised second dining area open to the main dining area and adjacent to the private dining. A large focal art piece, mirrors and large light pendants fill the dining spaces. In the private dining area, wallcovering depicting the iconic Lark and deep set wood framed mirrors over wood wainscot create a special dining room for small parties.
Nearly 5,000 SF of restaurant space will serve over 250 guests. The kitchen will have booth gas and natural wood fire cooking. The restaurant will be ideal for relaxed lunches, after dinner drinks, quick bites, or full dinners. With an extensive wine list, fresh cocktail menu, and seasonal farm fresh cuisine in a relaxed yet sophisticated environment it is sure to become the new destination in Fashion Island and Newport Beach.
