THE MATHESON | Healdsburg, CA
The Matheson is a project and a place.
As a project, it is the expansion, renovation, and restoration of 104-108 Matheson Street – a partially vacant and underutilized historic commercial building in downtown Healdsburg on the Plaza. The mixed-use renovation includes two retail spaces at each side of the building for the existing tenants: Plaza Gourmet and Copperfield Books. The middle section is the new restaurant ‘The Matheson’. Working its way up to the roof deck level is bar and lounge ‘Roof 106’ and then above that, two residential condominiums. This final mix of retail, restaurant, and residential are all uses permitted and encouraged to be built near the Plaza per city guidelines.
As a place, it is the new restaurant and bar named ‘The Matheson’ for chef and owners Dustin Valette and Craig Ramsey. It is meant to have a localized sense of place that includes four parts: The Bar + Dining Room, The Mezzanine, The Private Dining Room/Terrace, and The Roof Deck. Each have their own distinct designs, but overall, the conceptual direction is meant to tie into the vision established by Valette. This is an homage to the local artisans, craftspeople, winemakers, and farmers – hence ‘the makers’ that have been part of the local agricultural and epicurean community for generations.
